The MEDEVAC Podcast:
The MEDEVAC Podcast was born from a series of unlikely events that unfolded over the course of 15 years. Hosts David Reid and Christian Meyers met in 2006 where they attended Merrill F West High School in Tracy, CA together. Post graduation both decided to serve their country in their own respective ways. --
During an operation David stepped on a pressure plate IED in the entry of a doorway into a room he was clearing. The IED was wired in series to over 12 pounds of additional explosives, which thankfully did not detonate, saving his life. He would however lose his left leg, severely damage his right calf, break his back, and incur a major TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).
David would eventually end up at the Brooke Army Medical Center, Center for the Intrepid in San Antonio, Texas for his recovery. After 11 additional surgeries, and multiple series of physical therapies David would begin his life again, with the same ferocity and ambition as before.
He would go on to graduate from University of Texas San Antonio with a degree in Athletic Medicine, and enter into medical school soon after. Prior to beginning medical school, David was introduced to celebrity Chef Robert Irvine who saw potential for David to succeed in business - so Robert invited him on board. David would go on to hold a position as Vice President of The Robert Irvine Foundation a 501(c)(3) serving active military and veterans through financial and general support).
David is now the Co-Owner and CEO of Terra Arma, a military and outdoor clothing company designed for use by operators and outdoor enthusiasts alike, as well as Co-Host on the Medevac Podcast.
Serving under multiple roles and integrating with different agencies gave Christian the opportunity to become a more well-rounded aviator and operator. Christian would eventually be medically retire after 11 years of service, reaching the rank of E-6, accumulating over 1600 flight hours and 300+ rescues, 150+ combat missions, and 9 Air Medals.
Outside of the military, Christian has always had a passion for adventure and excitement. He began skydiving in 2016 which immediately turned into his full-time passion. To date Christian has over 2000 skydives and holds ratings as a USPA Coach, Instructor, and UPT Sigma Tandem Instructor with over 1000 tandem skydives. Skydiving lead to Christian’s first taste in business: he began volunteering at a non-profit that taught combat wounded veterans how to skydive, eventually becoming the President of the Board of Directors. During his tenure, over 100 veterans were directly impacted and either learned to skydive or got a taste of it with an introductory jump.
During Christian’s final combat deployment in 2018 he had came up with the idea for Terra Arma. He saw a deficit that needed to be corrected with uncomfortable uniform base layers. He developed two proprietary fabrics out of entirely reclaimed and recycled materials that make up a primary bulk of Terra Arma’s products. Terra Arma is now taking military clothing by storm, as they outfit many Air Force and Army special operations branches, rescue squadrons, and an extensive amount of support units.
Christian is the Founder of Terra Arma and works full time as the Chief Product Officer, and host on The Medevac Podcast.
